Au Revoir/ Auf Wiedersehen Swiss Alps!

“At a certain point, you say to the woods, to the sea, to the mountains, the world: Now I am ready. Now I will stop and be wholly attentive. You empty yourself and wait, listening.”               –Annie Dillard

Our journey home through the Alps this weekend took an unexpected 8.5 hours when the roadway over the mountains was closed due to dangerous conditions. We headed back down to the base after a slow and snowy climb up that had taken over an hour, and made our way to a car train (your car sits on a flatbed of the train with you in it), which, after a three-hour wait, zoomed us through a pitch black tunnel to the Italian side of the Alps. From there, mother nature took us on a tour of the seasons, showing off a white-out winter storm, heavy showers followed by hail, and then finally on to a rainbow and blue skies. It’s nice to be home!
